ActionAid Guernsey is using Volunteers’ Week to appeal for new volunteers and Committee members to join them and help drive the charity forwards.
Established in Guernsey in 1982, ActionAid Guernsey is a fundraising branch of ActionAid UK, and has consistently been the UK’s most successful fundraising group, raising more each year than any other group in the UK. The charity is seeking new volunteers to help drive the charity forwards and continue this success.
ActionAid works with women and girls living in poverty in over 45 countries. The charity is ending violence and fighting poverty so that all women and girls, everywhere, can create the future they want. In recent years, ActionAid Guernsey has fully funded projects to rebuild a school damaged by the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal and to tackle gender equality in Tanzania, which even led to the government changing the law in 2022 to protect women from perpetrators of violence.
The Committee roles available include Treasurer, Secretary, Communications & Marketing Officer, Social Media Manager and Fundraising Officer. The charity also has non-Committee roles available for people who would like to help organise or volunteer at fundraising events on a more ad hoc basis. Volunteers can assist with anything from flag days, quiz nights, the World Aid Walk, music nights, plant sales, bonus ball draws, charities fayres, the Mostly Books shop, or any other event that the volunteers would like to organise.
Committee roles are likely to be 1-5 hours each month, on average, but with no fixed time commitment, volunteers can shape roles to suit their own availability. “Volunteering with ActionAid is very flexible, as we understand that people have busy lives. We are very happy to tailor roles to suit volunteers’ skills and interests and to fit around their lifestyle.” said Natalie Tucker, Chair of ActionAid Guernsey. Not only can it be fun and rewarding, but volunteering with ActionAid can also give you the opportunity to meet new people and enhance your employability skills. ActionAid’s Committee roles also provide a development opportunity for those seeking leadership or board experience.
“Our events and fundraising activities can’t happen without a great team of volunteers. We’d like to take this opportunity during Volunteers’ Week to thank every single volunteer and supporter who has helps us raise thousands of pounds every year. You have all helped change people’s lives for good and we’re so grateful for everyone’s generosity over the past 40 years.” said Natalie Tucker, Chair of ActionAid Guernsey.
