The biggest school quiz in the Channel Islands, the de Putron Challenge, is back, bringing year 6 and year 8 students from Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney together to put their knowledge and skills to the test.

The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘Power Dynamics’ which will be reflected throughout the rounds. For example, the science and geography round will explore the forces of nature, the current affairs round will focus on the most important news that’s appeared over the past few years, while in the history round the students will be travelling through various time periods to answer questions on the balance of power in those eras.

Alongside a new round focusing on music and art, there are also general knowledge and maths questions, and an innovative STEM round, enabling the students to work closer as a team to solve a technical puzzle to test their skills.

Returning as Guernsey’s quizmaster is political reporter John Fernandez from BBC Guernsey, while Freddie Miller is returning for a second time as quizmaster in Jersey, joining from BBC Jersey.

Hayley de Putron, a Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and Founder of the de Putron Challenge, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting the de Putron Challenge again for 2025. We're excited to see how the students tackle the challenges together as a team. It is amazing to see young people from the islands’ schools coming together to show their skills and knowledge, as the quiz not only highlights the importance of leadership but also teaches students the value of respect, collaboration, and empathy.

“My aim is for every student to leave the quiz with a better understanding of how power dynamics work in everyday life; and hope that the knowledge they gain will stay with them for years to come.”

Friends, families and fellow pupils are invited to attend the quiz and support the students on the day.

The Guernsey de Putron Challenge is being held at Beau Sejour on Tuesday 4th March starting with the Year 6 challenge from 9:15am to 12pm. The Year 8 challenge will take place from 2pm until 4pm.

The Jersey de Putron Challenge is being held at the Jersey Royal Showground on Tuesday 18th March starting with the Year 6 challenge from 9.15am to 12:30pm. The Year 8 challenge will take place from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

The Inter-Island final will take place in Guernsey this year at Les Cotils on the 1st April 2025.
