Guernsey’s ambulance service is giving islanders and opportunity to join the ambulance subscription scheme at upcoming outreach events.
Staff from Ambulance and Rescue will be at Beau Sejour and St Martin’s Community Centre to answer questions about the scheme and purchase new membership or pay for a renewal.
Simon Gardiner, Finance Director at Ambulance and Rescue said: “Everyone is busy and we recognise that having to fill in a form and set up a payment for the scheme is something that can easily fall down the to-do list. So, we’re making it as easy as possible for people to talk to us and sign up for the subscription scheme for 2025.”
The pop-up shops will take place at Beau Sejour on Wednesday 13th and 27th November between 2-5pm; and St Martins Community Centre on Thursday 14th and 28th November between 12-2pm.
The £68 adult subscription covers up to five emergency ambulance calls over the 12 months.
The ambulance service also recently entered into a partnership with Guernsey Post allowing people to pay their subscription at any post office.
Mr Gardiner added: “We’re doing everything we can to make signing-up for an ambulance subscription as simple, easy and straightforward by possible. By getting into these venues with their large footfall, hundreds of people will have the opportunity to sign up for a subscription there and then, and by taking just a few minutes out of their day they could save hundreds of pounds every time you need an ambulance. This together with our new partnership with Guernsey Post, means it has never been easier to sign up.”
Anyone with an existing direct debit doesn’t need to do a thing, as the payment will roll over automatically. Adult subscriptions cost £68 per year, the equivalent of 19p a day. Under-18s are £31 and senior citizens are £48. Benefits of joining the subscription scheme include up to five free emergency ambulance responses, including assessment and treatment by qualified clinicians for subscribers; up to ten non-emergency patient transfers; up to five Flying Christine marine ambulance transfers.
Should an individual reach the allotted number of transfers within their membership period, they will have the option to purchase a top-up to the subscription. Top-ups are at an increased rate and subject to a maximum of two in any one year, which is still less than the cost of an ambulance without a subscription.
Payments can also be made by card on the subscription portal via www.ambulance.gg.
Renewal emails and letters for existing members are being sent out this month. Anyone with an existing direct debit will be automatically renewed and therefore they do not need to take any action unless their details have changed or they wish to cancel.
