Telecoms won't be touched by Coronavirus

Tuesday 10 March 2020

Coronavirus won't have much of an impact on the island's telecoms network, according to Sure, because it already has disaster recovery procedures in place.

The business' Chief Executive in Guernsey said he wanted to reassure people that Sure had been closely monitoring the situation and had prepared by increasing its stocks and getting employees ready to work remotely.

Justin Bellinger said: "As a provider of critical national telecoms infrastructure for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, we want to reassure islanders that Sure has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak and has put procedures in place to limit the impact on our services.

“We have disaster recovery procedures that can be implemented as required to maintain the resilience and capability of our networks and our operations. We are well placed to implement these measures and meet the islands’ ongoing needs. Our current supply levels and are in a strong position and where necessary we are increasing stock holdings to reduce any risk of interruption to supply."

Mr Bellinger said they would keep customers updated on Sure's website as the outbreak unfolds.

"We will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds and, in the event we need to close our office, the majority of our day-to-day business operations can be performed remotely by our employees and we already have the networks, IT systems and devices to enable this."
