Sun shines on Sure, as newly installed solar panels provide enough power for the average home

Wednesday 18 September 2024

Sure is claiming a success with its new solar panels installed at the Castel exchange earlier this year.

The local telecoms provider installed the panels at the end of May this year, and says they've already generated enough power to supply the average home for a year.

Sure said that would be enough power to boil 2,000 filled kettles at the same time.

It’s the latest part of Sure’s solar offering, with a solar array at its Centenary House headquarters, and plans for more elsewhere.

As well as the secondary solar array in the Castel, the company is also looking to install more mini-solar stations across their exchanges with further installations planned throughout the rest of 2024 and into 2025.

Any energy generated from these solar panels not only powers the exchange, but also feeds units back into the island's electricity grid.

Lucienne De La Mare, Human Resources Director and Chair of Sure’s Green Team, said: “At Sure, we recognise our responsibility to operate with sustainability and community in mind.

"Since 2021, we have reduced Sure’s carbon emissions by 27%, a figure which will continue to improve as we invest in generating our own solar power to feed our infrastructure.”
