Student conference launched

Friday 19 May 2023

A new event has been launched by the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA) with its first student conference.

The GIIA said the half day event will give Sixth Form students the chance to "dive into the deep end of Guernsey’s international insurance industry".

Delegates will learn about the key global role Guernsey plays in managing risk, and why some of the world’s largest companies choose Guernsey as their insurance jurisdiction.

Adele Gale (pictured), Chair of the GIIA, said: “We’re really excited to launch this event for students; we want to engage with the younger generation and show them what a diverse, challenging and interesting career the international insurance industry in Guernsey can offer.

“Guernsey is known as a financial hub, but that alone doesn’t showcase the breadth of what the island has to offer for students finishing their A-levels. That’s why we’ve created ‘Insuring the Future’, to put the international insurance industry on the map for these students.

"From getting grain out of Ukraine, providing equal healthcare provision to employees of global firms to accelerating the construction of wind turbines, insurance is a force for good and we want to spread the word.”

‘Insuring the Future’ is being held at the end of June. Students can sign up with their Sixth Form teachers.
