Specsavers first to achieve Gold Keep Guernsey Green Award

Wednesday 02 May 2018

Specsavers has been successful in achieving a Gold Keep Guernsey Green Award - becoming the first organisation to be assessed against the new criteria for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

The award recognises organisations that help Guernsey maintain a healthy, clean environment, by operating to best practice in waste management and energy conservation. To achieve a Gold award Specsavers had to meet a set of high standards to demonstrate its commitment to reducing its impact on the environment.

Dame Mary Perkins has said she is very proud of the organisation:

“Specsavers is very proud to receive the first Keep Guernsey Green gold award and we are pleased that the judges recognised our robust environmental and waste management policies we have in place here at La Villiaze. We take our commitment to the Guernsey community very seriously, especially when it comes to the environment, and our teams work hard to reduce the impact of our operations.”

The independent assessor for the award, Keith Tapscott, said: “Protecting the environment forms an integral part of Specsavers' Corporate Responsibility Policy. A comprehensive Group Environmental Policy has been established setting global objectives in which staff, suppliers and other stakeholders are made aware of and contribute towards, at both a local and international level. This is very much evident in the Guernsey operation in terms of a highly sophisticated energy efficiency and management system, waste generation and recycling management, communication and travel.”

The award is open to any size and type of organisation in Guernsey and is valid for three years after which it can be revalidated on a triennial basis. Further information is available at gov.gg/kgga.
