Sarah Walden has been promoted to the joint role of Company Secretary and Financial Controller at Guernsey Electricity.

Ms Walden has worked at Guernsey Electricity for nearly 25 years having originally joined the company as a bursary student. In her new role, she will advise the board on corporate governance issues and have responsibility for controlling the company’s financial systems.

Julian Turner, Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Guernsey Electricity, said: "The company secretary and financial controller roles are hugely important within the organisation and Sarah thoroughly deserves this promotion. She has worked her way up through the company and is widely respected amongst her colleagues and the board. Her detailed knowledge of the company and attention to detail is exemplary and I wish her every success."

Ms Walden added: "My role within the company has developed alongside my experience and it is extremely gratifying to be promoted to this senior management position. Guernsey Electricity has continued to be a supportive employer and I am proud to have progressed from bursary student. I’m looking forward to the challenges of my new role at what is an interesting time for both the company and energy market."

Ms Walden joined Guernsey Electricity while studying accounting and financial analysis at Warwick University. On completion of her studies she was subsequently appointed as trainee accountant in 1997 and progressed to commercial accountant two years later, before taking on the role of financial analyst which she held for 12 years.

She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and holds the Diploma in Treasury Management from the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
