Sandpiper expands into Isle of Man

Friday 28 August 2020

The Channel Islands’ largest retailer has announced plans to launch two of its franchises in the Isle of Man.

Sandpiper is planning to open iQ, the authorised Apple reseller, and Cardfactory, in the Crown Dependency.

The company is now advertising on the Locate Isle of Man website for Management, Technicians and Sales Support Assistants to work at the Apple store, which will be located in Douglas.

This is not the first time the retailer has tried to expand into the northern isle; in January 2017, it announced its intention to buy the 50,000sqft Tynwald Mills - the only department store in the island.

However, the sale fell through. Sandpiper said it later emerged that the store’s profit levels where below what it had expected. Tynwald Mills attempted to claim a breach of contract, but lost the case when it was taken to the Isle of Man’s high court.

In an interview with the Isle of Man Press, Sandpiper CEO Mike Rutter said he was “glad to say this time it definitely looks like we are landing in the island, and we are very pleased.”
