Saffery Champness appoints new Associate Director

Tuesday 05 January 2021

Matthew Gilligan has been appointed as the new Associate Director of Saffery Champness Registered Fiduciaries' Guernsey Office.

He brings with him more than 15 years of experience in the finance industry, including work for clients in Europe, North America and Asia.

"It's great to be a part of such a respected and ambitious team," said Mr Gilligan.

"I look forward to working with my new colleagues across the firm to provide our clients with much-needed certainty and clarity in these challenging times."

He comes to the firm from a privately-owned trust company, where he managed complex and multi-jurisdictional family structures, often managing "unique and high-end" assets.

At Saffery Champness, he'll work with fiduciary teams to provide "bespoke offshore solutions" for high net worth individuals, across a range of key jurisdictions. He will also have a focus on business development for the firm, helping to expand its reach and find new market opportunities.

Outside of the office Mr Gilligan is a committee member for the Guernsey branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, acting as its student liaison officer, regularly working with students to provide support and guidance throughout their studies.

His appointment follows the appointments of fellow Associate Director Sean Walsh in March 2020, and the promotion of Donna Brehaut to Associate Director on 1 January, 2021.

Guernsey's Managing Director Nick Batiste said Mr Gilligan's hiring was the "right move at the right time" for the company.

"Against the backdrop of the global pandemic, our fiduciaries teams have seen rising demand from international clients looking for the reassurance which comes from working with independent professional advisers based in trusted jurisdictions."

"Our fiduciaries business has been on a high-growth trajectory in recent years; Matthew's addition well and truly carries this momentum into 2021 and lays the groundwork for another banner year for meeting the complex, evolving needs of High Net Worth Individuals."
