Rugby Association Summer Camp huge success

Guernsey’s Summer Rugby Camp came to a close at the end of last month, seeing over 120 children taking part.

Sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, the four-day event saw children aged five to sixteen come together and develop their rugby skills.

The Memorial Field became the "home of laughter, determination and fun" as children aged five to ten took to the field in the mornings and those aged eleven to sixteen strode onto the pitch in the afternoons. The Summer Rugby Camp finished with a BBQ on Friday 31 August to celebrate the week.

Head of Wealth Management at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, Guernsey, Andy Finch, said: “We’re pleased to have sponsored the Guernsey Summer Rugby Camp again this year. For the children taking part this camp is always one of the highlights of the summer. As part of our #cando campaign, we have been encouraging our staff and clients to get active and enjoy our beautiful island. This event allows us to do the same for Guernsey’s children and potentially help some children discover a love for this great sport.”

The annual Summer Rugby Camp provided the "perfect opportunity to try out the sport" and this year was no different, as it welcomed all levels of experience and ability, Steve Melbourne, Rugby Development Officer and organiser of the camp, added.

“Rugby is a fantastic inclusive sport. It doesn’t matter what your ability, you can play. You see kids come into their own on the pitch and I love to watch this happen not only as a coach but as someone who wants to continue to see our island’s children thrive. These few days have seen new friendships made over the love of the sport. Everyone can take part and everyone #cando it, so keep an eye out for details about the 2019 camps.”

With the help of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, the Rugby Camp will return for Easter 2019.
