A review of Standby charges for embedded generation in Guernsey by the Channel Islands Competition & Regulatory Authorities (CICRA) has been welcomed by IEG.
International Energy Group is the business behind Guernsey Gas, and is currently backing an upcoming new energy business that aims to rival Guernsey Electricity with a new method of electricity generation.
It was granted a licence enabling it to do this nearly a year ago, and is now close to seeing those long term plans bare their first fruits.
IEG said it hoped that the outcome of this new CICRA review would be the final stepping stone to allowing more new energy projects to allow islanders the benefit of more choice.
Ian Plenderleith, IEG's Group Managing Director, said: "IEG has spent the last twelve months talking to islanders, stakeholders and politicians, evaluating what really is the best solution for the islands energy economy, effectively putting islanders first.
"We are now looking forward to making a real difference to the way islanders choose their energy supplies in the future by introducing on-island low-carbon electricity schemes including renewable energy systems. We believe that Guernsey will be a 'greener' island not only for the short term but for the long term providing a sustainable supply of electricity for generations to come."
Mr Plenderleith said they were actively working with the States to develop a Sustainable Energy Policy that is fit for purpose for the long term in Guernsey.
"Our business in Guernsey is very important to us and we take our responsibilities extremely seriously," he added.
"We share the vision of Guernsey as a green environmentally conscious island that we should all be proud of IEG intends to invest significantly bringing economic enabling business to the island, creating jobs, providing a choice, competition and secure on-island low carbon electricity supplies for the long term.
"We believe that Guernsey is now just one step away from having a level playing field for licensed market operators. We look forward to working with CICRA while they review these charges. Once this fair and transparent process has been completed, we look forward to commencing with our projects for all sectors of the island community."
