Those staying in the cottage on Lihou Island over the Christmas period will be able to enjoy a full Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, thanks to the donation of a new oven from Trust Corporation International.
The Guernsey-based trust company made the donation after a staff request to support the Lihou Charitable Trust, which is responsible for maintaining the house on the island.
The oven, a state-of-the-art Blue Seal Evolution gas range with six-burner cooktop and heavy-duty stainless-steel finish, has been installed in the kitchen in time for guests over the festive season to use. The house is fully booked into the new year.
Steve Sarre, the Lihou Island Warden, said: “We are so grateful to Trust Corporation, the previous oven was over 10 years’ old and in great need of an upgrade. With around 3,500 guests each year, including students from majority of schools on Guernsey, I know that the new oven is going to be a great help to us.”
Mort Mirghavameddin, Chief Executive Officer at Trust Corporation International, said: “Lihou is a beautiful place to visit, and many of our local team have enjoyed a brisk walk around the island or even a stay in the house. So we are pleased that we’ve been able to support The Lihou Charitable Trust with a new oven which will upgrade the facilities and ensure future residents enjoy an even greater experience while staying over in a place so unique to Guernsey.”
The States of Guernsey bought Lihou Island in 1995 to guarantee access for people of Guernsey and their visitors. Lihou provides a unique experience with its varied history, beautiful views and interesting wildlife. Giving its residents the opportunity to enjoy peace and tranquillity by escaping from modern life or for the youth and school groups that visit, the opportunity to rock pool and play team games.
