Sarah de Carteret has been promoted to Extra Care Housing Manager for the GHA, after gaining more than a decade's experience with the organisation.

In her new role she’ll be responsible for managing services provided to GHA sites, something she describes as a privilege.

Mrs de Carteret originally joined the Housing Association in 2012 as a part-time housing officer, she looked after Le Grand Courtil Extra Care Scheme in 2014, and then in 2020 she became the Extra Care Housing Officer for GHA, running extra care schemes La Nouvelle Maraitaine & Le Grand Courtil, the Autism Hub and at the assisted living accommodation, Metivier House.

Speaking of her new role’s responsibilities following the promotion, Mrs de Carteret said: “I have had the privilege of working in the Extra Care Housing environment since it was introduced to Guernsey in 2014 and I have built relationships with many tenants and HSC staff along the way.

“Extra Care Housing is so unique and offers people the chance to stay in their own homes for longer, whilst receiving the care and support that they need. I have witnessed so many lives change for the better and this is why I love working in this environment.

“My goal is to continue improving our service, not just by focusing on tenancy management, but by fostering a stronger sense of community in order to improve the social needs of the tenants. I look forward to working closely with my team to ensure our tenants have the best possible support and living environment.”

Mrs de Carteret has received praise from the leadership of the GHA, with CEO, Vic Slade stating “Extra Care living isn’t just a bolt-on to existing services – it needs a different skillset, so we’re delighted to be able to support tenants with a dedicated team, headed by Sarah, who brings great experience and enthusiasm for the service.”
