New Digital Lead for Chamber

Wednesday 14 June 2023

The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce has appointed Matt Thornton, a co-founder of Cortex Technologies, as its new Digital Lead.

Already a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Thornton said he understands the importance of networking and collaboration in the business community.

His experience in tech roles, along with his opinions on the tech industry, are intended to bring a fresh perspective to the Digital Committee's work.

"My vision is for Guernsey to become a global leader in technology, leveraging the opportunities presented by emerging technologies to diversify revenue streams and level the playing field," Mr Thornton said.

"I recognise that the skills gap in computer science is a real challenge and my first priority is to work with education locally to extend and improve the offering we provide our students."

The Chamber of Commerce thanked Justin Bellinger, the outgoing industry lead for his 'dedication and contributions during his time in the post'.

It said it is looking forward to working with Mr Thornton and the rest of the Digital Committee to further 'develop innovative solutions and ideas to maximise the economic growth of Guernsey's growing digital sector'.

It says it sees the need to improve infrastructure and connectivity to support the growth of the digital sector in Guernsey and will be focussing on 'pragmatic solutions that enable modern businesses and encourage collaboration and innovation across industries'.
