New coalition looks to drive “meaningful change” in Guernsey

Friday 24 January 2025

Several business focussed organisations and groups have decided to work together, with representation from Guernsey’s third sector also, to work out what the most pressing issue is for the island, so they can collaborate on driving meaningful change.

Those involved include the Guernsey International Business Association, Hospitality Association, Construction Forum, Institute of Directors, Retail Group, Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Guernsey Industry, and the Association of Guernsey Charities.

There are more problems they wish to address beyond the housing crisis, from skill shortages to workforce development. However, they've agreed that the most pressing matter is addressing the current housing challenges, as it “is vital for sustaining Guernsey’s economic health and long-term growth”.

"Collaboration is key, and by pooling our expertise and resources, we can achieve so much more," they said.

“We aim to identify the challenges and opportunities that matter most to our community. This feedback will guide our collective efforts to support and advocate for the success of local businesses in Guernsey.”

To gather “essential insights from the business community”, the organisations are distributing a shared survey to their individual members, which will aim to identify the most pressing policy priorities for government action. The group hopes it will also serve to educate potential candidates running in this year's election about the critical issues shaping Guernsey’s future.

This joint initiative looks to ensure that the voices and needs of Guernsey's business and charity sector are clearly understood and addressed by the incoming government. The survey will focus on feedback reflecting the government’s current term, providing valuable data for our community.

Completions are welcome by members, non-members and the general public, it opened on Monday and you have until the end of the month to get your answers in.

You can access the survey online HERE
