A former senior civil servant with a track record in transforming organisations has joined the Medical Specialist Group as Chief Executive.
Jon Buckland joins the secondary healthcare specialists with a dozen years’ experience as Chief Officer with the States of Guernsey, initially at Commerce and Employment, then Education, Sport and Culture, and finally at Environment and Infrastructure.
He has also held positions at the Office of Utility Regulation and the Independent Television Commission. Since 2019 he has run his own management consultancy, Unleashing Potential.
MSG Chairman Dr Gary Yarwood said: "I’m really pleased to have appointed someone of Jon’s calibre and am very much looking forward to working with him. We wanted a communicator in the role who could build relationships because we see working in close partnership with Health & Social Care (HSC) as the best way forward for our organisations and for patients.
"Jon’s long career in the States and his understanding of how Guernsey works, along with excellent leadership and business skills, means that he is a real asset to the MSG."
Of his appointment, Mr Buckland said: "It is great to be part of an organisation that is committed to such high standards of patient care – it’s been a key theme of all the meetings I’ve had so far with our consultants, associates and staff.
"I am excited about what we can achieve together to develop our services and to continue to improve outcomes for patients. I am looking forward to working with colleagues to enhance the provision of secondary healthcare in our community."
