Money comparison website turns sights on supermarket prices

SuperSavvySavers, the new local price comparers, is using its website to compare 25 essential supermarket items as part of its bid to help ease the financial burden of the cost-of-living crisis.

The charity already has thousands of followers and is now offering insight into food staples from eggs, cheese, pasta and vegetables at all six supermarket brands in the island such as Waitrose and the CI Co-op.

SSS is aiming to add other products such as gluten free, freezer staples, petrol and diesel, and lunchbox items in the coming weeks but is also welcoming community suggestions.

Kat Gillespie, a founding member of SuperSavvySavers, said: “We’re really excited about the price comparisons, it’s been a real eye opener, I think a lot of people will be quite surprised by the results.

We started researching supermarket prices back in April and although we’ve seen a few price increases, we’re also now seeing some products coming down in price. We’ve also seen an increase in the number of products available within a supermarkets ‘savers’ range, it’s been really interesting”.

Sarah de Carteret, also a founding member of SuperSavvySavers added:We’ve made contact with the supermarkets and many local retailers who have been really helpful in sending us information. Most genuinely seem to want to help people save money, and it’s not just the supermarkets that have been in touch.

“Guernsey Electricity have been especially welcoming and have gifted us several small kitchen appliances to help with our promotional activities. The first prize to be won is an air fryer which someone can win in a simple ‘Like and Share’ competition that is currently running on our Facebook page”.

SuperSavvySavers are currently seeking sponsors to help with the cost of maintaining the new website and Facebook page. Any interested parties should contact Ms Gillespie at supersavvysavers@outlook.com.
