Lloyds pledges support for local charities

Lloyds Banking Group will be giving millions of pounds to charities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic across the Channel Islands next year, after pledging a £25.5 million annual donation to its four independent charitable foundations.

Charities will be able to apply for a grant from the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands, which has welcomed the news, saying the early funding commitment provides certainty of future support as charities look to restore and recover from the crisis.

LBFCI is one of Lloyds Banking Group’s four independently registered foundations. On average, it supports 30 charities per year across the Channel Islands with grants ranging from £2,000 to £100,000. The Foundation and the Bank also work in partnership to provide additional support to charities through a mentoring scheme and matched-giving fundraising initiatives.

Fiona Cannon, Lloyds Banking Group Managing Director of Sustainable Business said: “Our four independent charitable Foundations provide vital support to small charities across the UK and Channel Islands every year, and Lloyds Banking Group is proud to have funded them for almost 35 years.

"The support they provide local communities has never been needed more, so to ensure that they can continue their vital work, we have guaranteed that they will receive the same £25.5m funding in 2021 that they have received this year. We hope that this certainty will allow them to focus fully on continuing to support local charities and help Britain recover.”

Katie Le Quesne, Chair of Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands said it will help local charities which have suffered through a loss of fundraising events this year.

“The Foundation welcomes this positive commitment from Lloyds Banking Group at a time of great uncertainty. We have achieved so much during the last 35 years, providing grants totalling almost £20 million to help tackle social issues including domestic abuse, mental health and homelessness in our island’s communities. We are confident this pledge of continued support will provide security to many of the vital charities who apply to us for funding in the coming months.”
