Focusing on staff wellbeing is said to be working out well for Julius Baer in Guernsey, as the firm promotes external and internal physical and mental health initiatives to mark its 30th year in the island.

The Swiss wealth management group, which employs more than 100 people in Guernsey, has increased its focus on staff wellbeing throughout 2019 to promote positive physical and mental health.

A broader focus on wellbeing in the community was also part of Julius Baer’s sponsorship commitments in 2019, as the branch supported local filmmaker Gaz Papworth with his award-winning documentary about men’s mental health – Man Down.

Every employee has attended a mental health awareness session from Guernsey Mind. Management have also undergone specialist training in mental health awareness from the charity.

As part of the increased emphasis on wellbeing, the HR team has introduced a feedback system to monitor levels of satisfaction among employees and gather requests for improvements or changes in the workplace.

One of the most common requests was for a focus on physical health and, in response, Julius Baer has created a gym within its office on Lefebvre Street for staff.

Julius Baer Guernsey Branch Manager Stephen Burt said: “The focus on wellbeing will continue in 2020 and beyond. We want to provide a workplace that meets our people’s physical and emotional needs as well as their professional ones.

“Our Guernsey branch has incredibly low staff turnover numbers and that’s a consequence of the local management team’s dedication to creating a positive professional culture that employees clearly enjoy being a part of.”
