After going public with his views on turning the tourist information office into an art gallery, David Ummels will be discussing how art can be an economic enabler at this month's IoD breakfast briefing which is being held tomorrow.
Describing Mr Ummels as a "successful investor, banker and entrepreneur; currently focusing on managing his investments and privately advising a limited number of family offices, private banks and corporations on strategic, investment, fundraising, debt restructuring or governance topics," the IoD said he has also been a passionate art collector for the last 20 years.
He moved here with his family more than three years ago and shortly after arriving, he founded Art for Guernsey: an entrepreneurial and innovative art-related charitable initiative.
Over the last three years, he has organised a number of highly successful art exhibitions and charitable events through his initiative and as a result of this work, he has built support for the idea of using art as an economic enabler "that will achieve quantifiable and measurable goals for the island."
His talk to IoD members will reflect some of the discussions at the October convention around what Guernsey can do for the world and what asset base the island has from which to improve on and build our country brand.
Sponsored by Heritage Insurance, the breakfast event starts at 07:45 at the Old Government Hotel with some tickets still available at £12.50 for IoD members and £17.50 for non-members.
