Intersurgical creditors will be paid

Wednesday 06 September 2023

Months after Intersurgical closed the doors of its Guernsey's branch with the loss of 90 jobs, the local company is being voluntarily wound up.

On 31 August, the company confirmed that the local business would be wound up under the oversight of BDO Limited.

Richard Searle and Richard Jackson are the liquidators.

The formal notice in La Gazette Officielle said that "The Company is able to pay all its known liabilities in full".

The notice also said that any one with a claim against Intersurgical, or who is indebted to the company, should send details to Mr Searle at BDO before 29 September.

90 people were believed to have been employed by Intersurgical in Guernsey prior to the announcement that it was closing last October.

The staff roll had fluctuated over the years - with almost 120 employed during Spring 2020 when there was increased demand for the medical equipment produced locally.

The majority of the workforce were employed on the manufacturing line with office based staff including HR personnel also working there.

When Intersurgical closed its Guernsey factory and offices in October, all staff were told their contracts had been terminated with immediate effect.

The management blamed the growing financial losses incurred by the site along with a number of other outside factors for the decision.
