The Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA)’s flagship student event, Insuring the Future, is back for a second year with the 2024 event being held this Thursday (3 October).
Last year's event was deemed such a success that Insuring the Future 2024 will again bring together students from Guernsey’s Sixth Form Centre, the Guernsey Institute, Ladies’ College, Blanchelande College, and Elizabeth College for a half-day conference at 1857 at Kings, where they'll explore the global role Guernsey plays in the international insurance industry.
Adele Gale, Chair of GIIA, said attendees will gain an insider’s view of how Guernsey helps the world’s largest companies manage risk through interactive sessions and hands-on case studies.
“Our goal with Insuring the Future is to engage the younger generation and showcase the diverse, challenging, and rewarding career opportunities that the international insurance industry in Guernsey has to offer," she said.
"Over 40% of FTSE 100 companies now have their captives in Guernsey, cementing the island’s status as a leading insurance jurisdiction, and we want to ensure students are aware of the exciting prospects this industry presents.”
Supported by sponsors including SRS, WTW, AON, Davies, Utmost, Marsh, and Artex, this year’s event will see students step into the shoes of Guernsey-based insurance managers, tasked with creating tailored captive insurance solutions for a complex global client. Working in groups, they will navigate real-world risks, all under the guidance of industry professionals from local international insurance firms.
