250 girls will attend an event at the College of Further Education today to mark International Women in Engineering Day.
The pupils from across all high schools and colleges in Guernsey will have a range of hands-on activities available for them to try, including robotic arms, solar powered cars, electric cars, 3D printing and a ping pong missile launcher
Among the activities the girls will also hear from a number of senior ladies enjoying successful careers within this still male-dominated sector.
This is the third year the College has organised this event, with the first attracting 50 youngsters, last year 100 and this year 250, demonstrating the growing interest from schools in promoting the sciences to their female students.
The official day for INWED is Saturday 23 June, so the College decided to hold its event a day earlier, with support from CIGPE and sponsored by Guernsey Electricity.
INWED is marked across the country in schools, colleges and within engineering organisations as a way of promoting engineering orientated careers to girls.
More information on INWED can be found on the organisation’s website.
