A Guernsey student and sportswoman has secured a competitive and much-sought after Butterfield scholarship worth £18,000 per year.

Caitlin Torode, has been awarded $25,000 (which converts to around £18,000) per year for the duration of her course in support of her undergraduate studies as part of Butterfield’s annual scholarship programme.

Butterfield offers more than $150,000 to university students every year through six scholarships which are tenable for up to four academic years – representing a potential investment of more than $600,000 in each annual cohort of scholars

These awards are open to people from all ten jurisdictions that the bank operates in and Caitlin has been awarded the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship for Employees’ Children (European).

An accomplished equestrian and the island's female discus record holder, she is studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports & Exercise Science at the University of Surrey in the UK.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity, it will help me achieve my end goal to be a sports physiologist," said Miss Torode.

“I want to fulfil my passion of helping people and give back to sport and the community. I am looking forward to meeting and working with the Butterfield team over the course of my degree.”

Andrew Burns, Butterfield’s Group Head of Human Resources, said: “Congratulations to Caitlin and all of our well-deserving scholars. We wish them the best and look forward to following their achievements.”
