Guernsey Directors become Chartered

Monday 09 March 2020

Three Guernsey Directors have achieved Chartered Director status through the IoD Director Development programme.

Charlotte Denton, Wendy Dorey and Fiona Le Poidevin have become Chartered Directors.

Chartered Director is the professional qualification for directors and recognises the high standards and capabilities that are needed to ensure that the profession of ‘director’ is understood and placed at the heart of company life.

Ms Le Poidevin said: “I am delighted to have become a Chartered Director.  It represents the pinnacle of the formal IoD qualifications and I really believe it is fundamental in underpinning the professional expertise needed to fulfill a director role effectively.”

The qualification is an experience-based assessment and reviews the work of the individual in the context of their board position, how they use their knowledge, the skills they possess to the benefit of the organisation and how they discharge their duties as director.

Ms Denton, who is also the ambassador for IoD Chartered Directors in Guernsey, said: “I would encourage anyone who has undertaken the IoD Director qualifications to look into taking the next step to becoming chartered.  I have found becoming chartered extremely rewarding.”

To be considered for chartered status you need to have been in a director level role for at least three years, be a member of the IoD, and have passed the IoD certificate and diploma in Company Direction within the last 10 years.

Ms Dorey said: “The IoD Director Development programme has been invaluable in broadening my knowledge of the core responsibilities and duties of being a Board Director. As a strong advocate of continuous learning, the ability to study on-island at the Guernsey Training Agency - with lectures delivered by the IoD's highly qualified tutors - has been a real benefit.”

IoD Guernsey Chair John Clacy said: “With the changing regulatory landscape continuing to evolve, an effective and responsible board is essential to the success of all businesses.  I am delighted Charlotte, Wendy and Fiona have become chartered and it is great for Guernsey’s business community to have three more Chartered Directors.”
