The shortlist for this year’s Guernsey Design Awards has been announced.
The shortlist of 15 has been selected from 38 entries. The awards honour distinctive, original, inspirational and sustainable building design within the local built environment.
Held biennially, the competition is developed in association with Norman Piette, the Environment Department and the Guernsey Society of Architects (GSA).
The competition features awards for Residential New Builds, Residential Renovations/Extensions, Non-residential Builds, Small Projects and Heritage Projects. This latter category was launched in 2016 to cover renovations or works to preserve, enhance or extend older properties.
The ‘People’s Choice’ award category winner will be chosen by the general public from a short-list of entrants compiled by the Design Awards judges. Voting will be open from today, 9 February.
Paul Rogers of Norman Piette said: “To have made the shortlist has tremendous merit in itself, for it is on such projects that Guernsey’s landscape has been wisely shaped. Even the most casual public viewer has an opinion on design and construction.”
The guiding criteria for the judges included the overall quality of design, use of materials, the relationship to setting, sustainability and adherence to the client brief.
The awards presentation evening is being held at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts on Wednesday 14 March 2018. Admission is free and anyone wishing to attend can register for tickets here.
