Global media experts to visit Guernsey to inspire tomorrow’s leaders

Friday 17 August 2018

Inspirational thinkers and leaders from some of the world’s biggest social networks will be heading to Guernsey next month as part of a new iniaitive to promote marketing excellence in the island.

The free event, which is being organised by the Guernsey Marketing Forum and sponsored by Specsavers, will showcase the very latest in digital thinking, with insights from powerful social media experts from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Snapchat.

Attendees will get to learn from four innovators and marketers who continue to push the boundaries, while also networking with some of the most important players in the industry.

Taking place at St James on Wednesday 12 September, it is hoped the event will inspire not just the marketing, advertising and communications talent locally, but also islanders from all fields including students.

Vicky Norman of the newly-established Guernsey Marketing Forum, said it was an important event to be staged on the island which would offer a space for ideas and knowledge sharing.

"We are thrilled to be bringing over top experts from four of the world’s leading social networks. All of our speakers have different areas of expertise within the industry and will I’m sure have lots of interesting insights and advice to share with everyone. We want attendees to return home feeling not just more informed, but more inspired to do great things, and this event – a first for Guernsey - promises to be that kind of catalyst.

"As a small island, we continue to punch above our weight when it comes to marketing excellence, but we want to harness all that and turn the marketing talent of today into the leaders of tomorrow. We hope next month’s event will help islanders to learn about and take advantage of the powerful insights from those at the top of their game in their field."

During the event, each of the four speakers will share their journey and give rare insights into what they believe the industry’s future will look like. Attendees will then have the opportunity to quiz them through a Q&A session led by Natalie Bell, managing director at media agency, Manning Gottlieb OMD.

Ms Bell began her media career in 2001, working at IPCMedia, then the UK’s biggest magazine publisher. Having been completely hooked by everything in the digital space, she joined Manning Gottlieb OMD head office in London in January 2008.

Mrs Norman added: "We are delighted to be able to host this event for free, thanks to the support of Specsavers, which has a 70-strong team of marketers, and we look forward to hosting more events in the future."
