GIFA Investment Challenge winners show positive returns

More than 400 students took part in a stock-picking investment challenge.

The Guernsey Investment & Funds Association competition ran from 1 October to 31 March and aimed to give students an insight into part of investment management.

102 teams, made up of over 400 students from five educational institutions in years 10-13 to compete, entered this year’s challenge. 

Each team started with a notional £1m to invest in a choice of 12 stocks; the aim being to grow it as much as possible over the six months of the competition.

In the years 10 and 11 category, first place was awarded to The Investment Bulls (Blanchelande College), with a  total return of +109.59%. Second place went to CJR (Elizabeth College) and third to The 3 Musketeers (Blanchelande College).

In the years 12 and 13 category, Dragun Investments (The Sixth Form Centre) led the way, with a +132.34% total return. Second place was Maradonuts (The Guernsey Institute) and third Ctrl+Alt+Defeat (Elizabeth College).

Individuals in each team won a £100, £50 voucher and £25 voucher, respectively.

The GIFA Investment Challenge was supported by Rocq Capital, White Star Capital, ARC and Butterfield Group.

The 2024/2025 Investment Challenge which begin in October.
