GIBA appoints new Deputy Chairman

The Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA) has appointed a new Deputy Chairman.

Paul Sykes is the Managing Director of Aon. He will support the Chairman of GIBA, Paul Hodgson.

Mr Sykes has been developing business in Guernsey, Gibraltar and Malta through his work at Aon and the White Rock Group.

He said: “The financial services industry remains in a period of change as it helps the world respond to climate change and ESG concerns, recover from the pandemic and meet the headwinds of international tax changes.

"These themes bring opportunity and I am looking forward to supporting the industry and representing the views of our member associations in my new role as Deputy Chair of GIBA.”

Mr Sykes introduced the first insurance-linked securities to Guernsey and also launched the world’s first protected cell company, White Rock PCC.

Mr Hodgson has welcomed the appointment.

“I am particularly pleased to welcome Paul as Deputy Chair of the association in light of his long experience and wide network within the business community, especially in the insurance industry, where he has been instrumental in the development of Guernsey’s leading position globally," said Mr Hodgson.

“The finance sector continues to be the bedrock of Guernsey’s economy and it is more important than ever for the different sectors and associations to work together to ensure Guernsey has a role in the ever-changing global finance industry.”

GIBA represents financial services businesses in the island.
