Get to know: Becky Rowe

Wednesday 07 August 2024

Becky Rowe's journey started when she was just 16 years old...

Now, she has been working in the jewellery business for more than 25 years, with her very own shop which will be recognisable to many.

We caught up with her, as part of Express’ weekly spotlight celebrating small businesses in the island...

Upon leaving school at 16, Becky completed her jewellery apprenticeship locally and then chose to further her education in London, studying jewellery design at the London Metropolitan University.

Upon returning to Guernsey, Becky then worked for well-known local jewellers up until 2011 when she then set-up her own jewellery business. She now has more than 25 years’ experience in her chosen profession.

What do you offer?

Bespoke jewellery design and manufacturing service. We offer booked personal appointments to discuss the design process, which can be arranged out of hours if required.

As well as designing and making pieces of jewellery we also have many different gift ideas on display instore, including a wide variety of greeting cards.

When did you set up and why?

It was always my ambition to work for myself. I opened my first workshop in 2011 and in 2015, moved to my current larger premises following full renovation of the building.

What is your favourite part about running this business?

Designing pieces of jewellery which are often sentimental, from the initial design process through to the manufacture of the piece. We also re-design customers’ existing jewellery, giving a new lease of life to previously treasured items or family heirlooms.

What has been the most challenging part of running this business?

Establishing the brand since I started. Often long hours, but the end product and flexibility make it all worthwhile.

What sets you apart?

Bespoke jewellery design and manufacturing, using all types of precious stones and metals. We can also offer a CAD service where customers view and implement adjustments or alterations to their computer generated on-screen image.

To compliment all the above, the shop also stocks a comprehensive range of gifts, suitable for many occasions. This together with a full range of greeting cards make for a worthwhile visit. We also have 2 car parking spaces directly outside the building.

What goals do you have for this business?

Continue building on the last 13 years of hard work where we have established ourselves as one of Guernsey’s well-known local jewellers.

We have also designed and made jewellery for many customers off-Island, some of whom have never visited Guernsey. Our aim is to continue to build off-Island brand awareness.

What's your favourite thing about living/working in Guernsey?

Guernsey summers and being in a safe environment, with a relatively short distance from work to any of our beautiful beaches.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?

Anything to do with looking after and entertaining my little two year old son, ‘Bodhi’.
