Dr Evans returns as MSG Chair

Friday 06 January 2023

An interim chair has been appointed at the Medical Specialist Group bringing past experience back to the fore.

Consultant physician Dr Steve Evans (pictured top) is stepping up to chair the MSG this month on an interim basis, taking over from consultant in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia Dr Gary Yarwood who has led the MSG since 2017.

Dr Evans previously chaired the MSG from 2011 to 2017 and he said one of his priorities over the next 18 months will be to develop a successor from among the group’s 40 partners.

He will combine his role as chair with the lead MSG clinician role on the new electronic patient record (EPR) project. Outside work he coaches the Guernsey Raiders Ladies rugby team.

Dr Evans said: "I would like to pay tribute to the way that Gary has led the MSG over the past six years, including through the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

"I’m looking forward to my second stint as MSG chair, leading a great team who are committed to the highest standards of expert, compassionate healthcare."

Dr Yarwood added: "It has been a real honour to lead such dedicated and talented group of consultants during these unprecedented times.

"I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, meeting the unparalleled emergency demands of the pandemic while maintaining elective services to an exemplary level by comparison with the UK. We’ve steadfastly put the needs of the patient first, have strengthened our partnership working with the HSC and are investing in the long term to meet the growing demographic patient demands.

"Steve has significant experience as a clinical leader and it is reassuring to know that the MSG will be in safe hands."
