Digging into the tunnel idea

Thursday 23 January 2020

Those behind the proposals for an underwater tunnel between Guernsey and Jersey will be making the case at an IoD breakfast meeting this Friday.

The Institute of Directors (IoD) January seminar, sponsored by Butterfield will discuss the economic challenges facing Guernsey over the next two political terms.

The breakfast will discuss why infrastructure will play a critical role in securing the Channel Island’s future through de-risking and delivering economic growth.

The event will hear from Martyn Dorey, who will discuss these themes and also share the economic and strategic argument behind a fixed link between the Channel Islands and what this would deliver.

Mr Dorey, an investment actuary who founded Dorey Financial Modelling and is a former Guernsey Chamber of Commerce President, will present his economic projections for the project in terms of predicted demand, affordability, return on investment and policy challenges.

Stephen Whitham, Head of Department Tunnels at Danish experts Ramboll, will present an engineer’s perspective on the project, discussing the credibility of the link, the realistic costs and how Guernsey could practically turn vision into reality.

The seminar starts at 07:45 on Friday in The Colborne Room at the OGH - with more information and ticket bookings available here
