Children's Christmas card competition to add a spot of colour

Friday 16 November 2018

Redwood Offshore Limited, the Guernsey Arts Commission and charity GROW Limited have teamed up to offer local children the opportunity to make Christmas as colourful as possible by designing a Christmas card for compliance support provider Redwood.

Entry forms are being circulated in local schools, and they can be downloaded from the Redwood website. One entry will be chosen and used as the design for Redwood’s Christmas cards, which will be sent to all the company's clients and contacts. The creator of the winning entry will also earn £500 worth of GROW vouchers, which can be used to buy plants and trees, for his/her school.

The Guernsey Arts Commission will then use a selection of the entries to create a very Christmassy installation at Waitrose Admiral Park aiming to give islanders a colourful, festive experience as they do their Christmas shop.

Chief Executive of Redwood, James Wood, said: “As a Channel Island based business with local staff, directors and shareholders, we are rooted in the island’s communities. We wanted to make sure our Christmas card was as bright and colourful as possible so we’ve asked local children to come up with some brilliant designs for us. Children of today are tomorrow’s future and we believe that it is vital that their development is diversified and inclusive. We are very proud to partner with the Guernsey Arts Commission and Grow Limited, organisations which both reflect these values.

“We’ve had a few entries already and some great ideas and artwork. I’m really looking forward to seeing them all!”

Russ Fossey, Head of Arts Development for the Guernsey Arts Commission, said: “Christmas is the perfect time to get crafty and make your own interpretations of Christmas classics. This competition is a great opportunity for local children, and even adults, to have a go at re-imagining what their ideal tree would look like. We’ve been impressed with the entries so far and are looking forward to seeing more.”

All entries must be received by the 23 November 2018, by handing them in at Candie Museum or emailing them to info@arts.gg
