The ship carrying Guernsey's new undersea power cable has left Scandinavia, and is expected to arrive in the Channel Islands on 3 October.
It will be dropping the cable to Havelet Bay in Guernsey on 6 October, ready for it to be installed between the island and Jersey. As scheduled, the new cable should be energised with all site works and burial complete in both Islands in early November.
But in the meantime, the old cable has been completely switched off to allow safe completion of the final stages of the project. Guernsey will therefore be reliant on on-island generation only, which Guernsey Electricity said had 'reduced the resilience' of the power it is generating.
Work for the installation has already begin at Havelet.
Guernsey Electricity Chief Executive Alan Bates met with the cable's manufacturer in Sweden to see the cable being loaded onto its vessel last week.
