Butterfield invests in community’s future with bursary awards

Butterfield has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the local community and investing in its future by awarding bursaries to two students, Hannah Rosumek and Murren Richards.

The Bursary Programme provides financial assistance to two local students for the duration of their three-year degree courses, together with paid work during the holiday periods.

The students will receive a comprehensive training programme, enabling them to develop skills and expertise required to succeed in their chosen careers.

Kim Reece-Sheerin, Senior Manager for European Human Resources, said: "This is a unique opportunity for two students to gain insight into the working environment, whilst undertaking fully funded professional study, including paid study leave, course books and materials.

"Butterfield’s Bursary students will spend time and gain experience in various areas of the business, broadening their knowledge and skills for the future. We are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to these deserving students."

To be selected for a bursary, a student must achieve a minimum of 120 UCAS points. The application process involves students detailing their qualifications and expected grades for A Level or IB, information around their chosen university degree, hobbies and other positions of responsibility held. Applicants are then shortlisted and interviewed and two final candidates are selected. There is no obligation for the bursary students to continue their long-term career at Butterfield. 

Ms Rosumek, who is starting Butterfield’s Bursary Programme, said she decided to apply for the bursary because she was studying economics at university and had a real interest in the finance sector. "Butterfield offers placements in various departments, which appealed to me, as it can help me to see where my interests lie. Getting experience in the different areas will provide me with an insight into the types of work that I might be able to undertake in the future."

Ms Richards, who is studying English Literature at the University of Birmingham and who will be completing 10 weeks of work placement with Butterfield over the holiday periods, added: "I am very interested in a career in banking, so I was keen to apply for Butterfield’s Bursary Programme to learn more. It was particularly appealing that I could work during the holiday periods, as this will help me earn and save money whilst studying at university.

"I am looking forward to working at Butterfield and learning new skills that are complimentary to my degree and will benefit me in my future career."
