Alderney Shipping turns 50 today, having been moving cargo between Alderney and Guernsey for all that time.
The company is now part of a larger group of companies, including Channel Seaways, but Alderney Shipping is the oldest part of that group.
It was set up by the father of Bruno Kay-Mouat - the current Managing Director - and a small group of others.
Mr Kay-Mouat said they would be holding a party in both Guernsey and Alderney to celebrate their half-a-century anniversary.
"We are a shipping company that runs between Guernsey and Alderney primarily, and have Channel Seaways as well which runs to Poole and Jersey. We are 50 years old, locally owned and locally run," he said.
"Basically we have gone from going once a week between Alderney and Guernsey, to twice a week from the UK to the Channel Islands, with offices in Poole, Jersey, Guernsey and of course Alderney where we started. Back then we moved maybe a 1,000 tonnes of cargo a year, but now we are moving in excess of 50,000."
Alderney Shipping and the Group have been the main agents for companies like Lagan and Vanord, and have been key in bringing construction materials en masse to the islands for years. They also work with Cruise companies regularly.
"Thank you to all the people who we work with, I dare say they are really a good bunch," Mr Kay-Mouat said.
"We are sponsoring Alderney FC this year, so hopefully they will manage to win the Murrati. They deserve it!."
