AFM rewarded for its commitment to Health & Safety

Monday 02 July 2018

Facilities management company, AFM have won three health and safety awards, claiming the title of ‘best of the best’ and receive accreditation from SafeContractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety.

AFM’s HR administrator, Katie Taylor took home the ‘Individual or Young Achiever’ Award at the 2018 Guernsey Occupational Safety and Health Association (GOSHA) Awards last week. The award recognised Katie’s championing of mental health and wellbeing at AFM.

Ms Taylor was instrumental to the development of AFM’s wellbeing policy and support initiatives. She volunteers as the mental health first aider, coordinates training and increases the awareness of mental health among AFM staff.

Mark Edgar, AFM’s Managing Director, said: "Nothing for Katie is ever too much trouble. She’s shown consistently that she can act on her own initiative and is frequently identifying areas of potential improvement and benefit to the business across the fields of HR and health and safety."

AFM also won the ‘Safety Training Initiative’ Award for developing a bespoke approach to electrical safety and electrical safety training. This involved a thorough review and comparison of AFM’s internal health and safety policies and procedures for electrical works against that of international companies and industry leaders. The approach has been applied to AFM’s business model across the Channel Islands.

Judges also presented AFM with the ‘Best of the Best’ Award for health and safety.

"To win both the award categories that we entered, and the Best of the Best Award, makes me incredibly proud of the whole team at AFM. We take health and safety extremely seriously so it’s fantastic to have this recognised," Mr Edgar added.

To further evidence its commitment to health and safety, AFM has also been awarded, for the sixth successive year, accreditation from SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety.

SafeContractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme, which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK, including SMEs and FTSE 100 companies. To receive accreditation, SafeContractor undertook a vetting process that examined AFM’s health and safety procedures and track record for safe practice.
