Scouts of all ages have been busting boredom by completing a range of badges and activities at home during the Guernsey lock down.
The Guernsey Scouts Facebook page has been running ‘Boredom Busters’ since the children finished school on 20 March. They have been providing an excellent range of ideas and activities that appeal to children of all ages and interests and they are not just for Scouts; they are for the whole community.
New ideas are uploaded every day and there are some that are exercised based, some that are more creative and there was even access to free coding activities. Everything suggested is free and they are selected specifically with young people in mind, so they can be stimulated and burn off some energy during this unprecedented time in their lives. There have been online tutorials, such as woggle making and scouts have uploaded their creations to the Facebook page. There has been a fantastic response to the ideas with well over 1400 engagements, downloads and links accessed so far.
However, some are going even further and completing badges at home. Parents and carers have been given access to the badges area of the Scouts portal and are now able to work on activities at home with their Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. To secure the badge they then provide photo and video evidence to the Scout Leader. Badges completed so far include Book Reader Activity Badge and Beavers Cook Activity Badge.
Nick Paluch, Bailiwick Commissioner said: ‘It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm of our young people, who are getting involved and continuing to develop their skills for life. Our Guernsey Scouts Facebook page allows us to suggest a wide range of activities that our scouts can take part in, helping them continue to complete their badges and keep boredom at bay!’
