Carl Hester will have two shots at claiming a medal in his 'history-making' seventh Olympic Games.
Qualifying for the medal competitions in the dressage has played out over a two day Grand Prix for both the individual and team competitions.
Hester faced a wait to find out if he had done enough for the individual with his 77.345% on Tuesday morning after finishing outside the top two automatic qualifying spots in Group A.
In the end he claimed one of the six places for the other best scoring riders once the six groups had finished at Versailles, the seventh highest score overall.
Team GB's third rider Charlotte Fry also went today, with her score of 78.913% adding to Hester's and Becky Moody's 74.938% to qualify for the team competition with 231.196 in third place behind Germany who totalled 237.546 and Denmark with 235.196.
Hester has won medals at the last three Olympics in the team event, a gold in London 2012, silver in Rio four years later and bronze in Tokyo 2020.
The Grand Prix Special to decide the team medals takes place on Saturday 3 August.
Again, the scores from all three riders will count. No scores are carried forward.
To decide the competition, combinations perform a set test, with judges marking each of the movements out of 10.
The scores are then added up and combined with additional marks for the riders' seat and aids, before being converted to an overall percentage score.
The Grand Prix Freestyle to decide the individual medals is on Sunday 4 August.
18 combinations will take part.
The Freestyle test sees combinations ride a floorplan set to music of their choice, based on a list of required movements, with additional marks given for artistic merit and degree of difficulty.
Again, no scores are carried forward.
