Maya Le Tissier is ready to lead Manchester United Women out at Old Trafford for the first time with the wise words of Sir Alex Ferguson ringing in her ears.

Manchester United Women will get their 2024/25 WSL campaign underway at Old Trafford against West Ham United on Saturday.

Le Tissier is the new captain.

"It's so special, I can't believe it to be honest," she said.

"I'm honoured to be able to have this opportunity to lead this team out, to captain this team and hopefully we can get back to winning ways [after pre-season]."

Le Tissier is relishing the opportunity to play at Old Trafford.

"It means everything. I've played here a couple of times now and it's just so special, it's the best stadium ever, this is my favourite one to play at. It's going to be massive, hopefully my family can come as well, I just can't wait for it.

"We'll be ready, we can't wait to play here and obviously, for the new girls as well, it's going to be so special for them."

Le Tissier said the United fans were the best.

"I think it kind of creates an atmosphere that we want to play in, that we want to do well in. We want to win for this club, and for them as well, so it's huge and I think they'll be really excited for the first game to be at Old Trafford so, hopefully, we can start off with three points."

Earlier this week she met with United legend Sir Alex Furguson.

"You have a responsibility to show your character for everyone. Over the years if you look at it from a men's point of view, we've had osme great captains... so good luck, enjoy it," he said.

Kick off is at noon.
