Youth Forum to have its own States debate

Tuesday 15 June 2021

A group of youngsters will be taking their place in the States Chamber later this month for a half-day of debates.

The Youth Commission is partnering with the States Parliamentary Team to host a special debating opportunity for the Bailiwick's Youth Forum on Saturday 26 June.

‘Inclusion, The Environment, and Health and Active Lifestyles’ are the three themes of the upcoming debate, which will follow the same formalities as a regular meeting of the States of Deliberation.

The Youth Forum members in attendance will debate and vote for what projects they should take forward for the rest of their term.

The Bailiff, Richard McMahon, will preside over the meeting, which has been coordinated with the help of the States’ Greffier, Simon Ross, and the Parliamentary Team at the Royal Court.

“Youth Parliaments are held throughout the Commonwealth," said Mr Ross. "It is good to see that the States of Deliberation are amongst those assemblies encouraging an early engagement with the parliamentary process."

The debate will take place on the Saturday morning at the Royal Court House from 09:30, with an open house to the public. It will also be streamed live across Microsoft Teams.
