“The world does not revolve around you”

A man has been sentenced to 160 hours of community service for possession of a Class B drug and acting in a threatening manner.

Craig Le Sauvage (46) had pleaded not guilty to both charges but was ultimately found guilty during trials in the Magistrate’s Court. He was sentenced yesterday.

Prosecuting Advocate Marc Davies said that on 29 January last year, police officers saw a car driving near the Deerhound pub and attempted to stop the vehicle.

After a “brief pursuit” - which was not at a high speed - the car was stopped by officers. Advocate Davies added that there was “a little difficulty” getting Le Sauvage out of the vehicle.

Whilst searching the car, officers discovered cash “and a number of vape bottles”. One bottle, found in the centre console, was subsequently found to contain 10 grams of the synthetic cannabinoid MDMB-4en-PINACA.

Later, on 10 August 2021, Le Sauvage was alleged to have been engaged in “vitriol” at Les Caches Business Park whilst on bail for his initial offence.

Advocate Davies said that “just after 13:00… the victim was confronted by Le Sauvage” where he swore and made indecent gestures.

The victim noticed Le Sauvage was driving close behind him, attempting to block his exit. Le Sauvage then approached the driver’s window and continued swearing and gesticulating.

The police were called, and Le Sauvage was arrested the following day.

Defending Le Sauvage, Duty Advocate David Domaille recognised that no credit could be given for guilty pleas and highlighted that the probation report revealed that Le Sauvage was “maintaining his innocence”.

Advocate Domaille said that his client was fearful of a custodial sentence because of its effects on his employment and accommodation.

Judge Gary Perry read a quote from the probation report: “[Le Sauvage] believes the outcome of the trial was an injustice."

He then commented: “I found you guilty based on the evidence, not of your own views.”

He added that Le Sauvage was not of previous good character and said that he doubted anything he said would influence the likelihood of future reoffending.

“The world does not revolve around you,” said Judge Perry.

Le Sauvage was sentenced to 60 hours of community service for possession of the drug, and a further 100 hours for the public order offence, totalling 160 hours.

The forfeiture and destruction of the drugs was also ordered.
