The 2018 Guernsey Waterfront Marathon and Relay Races will take place today - bringing to an end months of training for the runners and hard work for the organisers.
The start and finish for all events will be on the seafront in St. Peter Port, which is closed to motorists today for a Seafront Sunday.
The Marathon and Relays Races will all start together at 09:00 with some of the individual runners expected to finish before midday while others will take longer to complete the 26.2 mile course, which starts with an uphill section.

The first 1.5 miles leave town heading through St Martins and towards the airport. The runners will then head for the west coast and around the coastline back to St Peter Port where they will finish on the Crown Pier.

The course will be marked out with signs pointing out each mile the runners pass saying "26 miles to go" etc, with drinks stations every 5K. There will be male and female toilets at each of the relay changeover points and public toilets are available around the course including at the Marathon Village at the start and finish of the race on the Crown Pier.
There will be trophies handed out for the first, second and third placed male and female runners along with cash prizes of £500, £250 and £125. There will also be trophies for the first Guernsey runner, the first Channel Island runner and for the first male and female runners over 40, 50, 60 and 70 years old. New for the 2018 event are prizes for the first male and female runners running their virgin marathon.
There is also an additional prize of £500 for the runner who beats the all comers record for the fastest marathon ever run in Guernsey which has been held by Freddie Sittuk from Kenya since 2013 after he ran the Waterfront Marathon in 2:18:11. Before that, Tony Simmons had held the record since 1986 with a time of 2:22:06.
