The States of Guernsey held a special meeting to pay tribute to his Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Bailiff, Richard McMahon, opened with a brief tribute to HRH, before reading out the statement sent on behalf of the Bailiwick to Her Majesty the Queen.

HRH died last Friday on 9 April at Windsor Castle, aged 99. The following day, there was a 41-gun salute at Castle Cornet in line with salutes across the British Isles.

Deputy Ferbrache followed the Bailiff by describing the Duke as a “person of sterling worth.”

“Great is a word that’s often used too loosely, but it doesn’t even half describe the magnificence of the work and the contribution HRH has made to the world, let alone the Bailiwick,” he enthused.

The meeting ended with all present Deputies standing to observe one minute’s silence.
