Guernsey Water has made an educational video which is being screened in local schools to teach children about the island’s water cycle, all the way from source to sea.
The video was set up to give a behind the scenes look at the route the island’s rainwater takes before it comes out of the tap, and after it is flushed down the toilet.
Tania Sargent, Customer Service Manager at Guernsey Water hopes it will help raise understanding of how precious our water supplies are.
“Our video has been created for use as a teaching resource in the classroom or at home, but should provide an interesting insight to a much wider audience," she said.
“It can be easy to take water for granted, but we hope that by providing an understanding of the island’s water cycle we can further encourage and promote the use water wisely message.”
Guernsey Water staff visit schools and arrange on-site talks to explain all kinds of water related topics, including its journey from source to sea.
Five pupils from Hautes Capelles Primary School watched the video recently, during a lesson with Guernsey Water’s catchment protection officer, Sarah Brown (pictured top).
The Source to Sea video helped inform their recent field visit to the reservoir.
While there they learnt that Guernsey’s water storage is currently at 100% full, but the situation was very different during November, when storage levels fell to approximately 19% below the ten-year average for the time of year.
