Guernsey's accredited tour guides have been busy getting ready for this year's Walking Festival, even though it can't be held in the usual way - with virtual tours launching today.
The event usually sees the guides take groups on foot around some of Guernsey's best known - and more secretive - sites of interest.
With gatherings still banned under lockdown rules, and no tourists in the island, seven of them have decided to take their local knowledge online to continue sharing their passion for the island's "stunning natural landscapes".
Seven of Guernsey’s accredited walking guides have been working on films of their favourite walks which have been designed to offer a virtual taster of the walking festival, which will be streamed online at VisitGuernsey.com from today, Saturday 23 May.
Starting at 10:00, VisitGuernsey will stream short clips of the guides’ favourite walks around the island, each themed to their area of expertise.
They will offer interested locals and any would-be visitors a "snapshot of different parts of the island" with each film covering a particular topic of interest and section of the island "in order to showcase the diversity of Guernsey’s natural and cultural heritage, and the breadth of the island’s walking product".
Gold accredited guide Gill Girard will start with a tour of the Little Chapel.

Her colleagues will then follow with snippets of walks themed around the Occupation of the island during WWII, its medieval history, as well as exploring the island’s best coastal and countryside spots.
Other films will look at how the island inspired French Impressionist artist Renoir and writer Victor Hugo, who both spent significant time on the island creating some of their most respected pieces of work.
Each film will last around 60 seconds and will be played at visitguernsey.com/see-and-do/events-festivals/virtual-walking-festival-taster, where the full schedule is now live.
Looking ahead to post-lockdown life, the Autumn Walking Festival is still planned to go ahead between 19 September and 4 October 2020.
