Wag walks recommence tomorrow

Wellbeing Animals Guernsey's 'wag walks' return this weekend, with a certificate at the end of the ten week's series for all canine members.

The charity’s annual season of dog walks was due to begin last Sunday, but it was postponed by a week until tomorrow, 25 September, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

This is the fifth year the series of walks has run, with ten planned, taking place across the ten parishes, over ten weeks.

Dog owners are invited to meet each Sunday at a different location for a walk through lanes and countryside.

Passports can be purchased in advance and stamped on completion of each walk. After the final walk, on 27 November, Harvey the Cavachon, and his owner Dr Nikki Brink, will present certificates of completion to those who have joined in all ten walks. 

Harvey is Wellbeing Animals Guernsey's patron. Dr Brink said they both enjoy taking part.‌‌

"Harvey and I enjoy taking part in the walks’ said Dr Brink, ‘we have explored new routes in different parishes. They are a great way to support this charity which provides much appreciated support and comfort to people in a variety of situations and is good opportunity to both socialise dogs and meet other dog owns."‌

Funds raised by Wellbeing Animals Guernsey goes towards its work which includes therapy dog visits at the hospital, residential homes, and schools.

The first walk will start at Martyn Guille Silversmiths, behind the Little Chapel, on Sunday 25 September at 14:00.

The walk will finish back at the starting point, with refreshments available.

‌The canine passports cost £10, and are available at the Trim Dog Centre in Pleinheaume, Creature Comforts in the Bouet, or they can be purchased online by emailing woof@wag.org.gg.

Anyone who can’t take part on a particular Sunday can follow the walk in their own time and take a ‘selfie' of themselves and their dog at the start/finish venue, attaching the photo to their passport.
