Havelet Bay was closed by police to allow handlers to safely bring a dog under control this morning.
About 20 minutes after police arrived at the scene, the GSPCA’s Geoff George walked down the beach and the animal, which before than had appeared agitated as it ran in circles and at times barked aggressively, walked up to him wagging its tail, jumping and allowed its lead to be picked up.
Police arrived at the scene at 10:00 and closed off both entrances to the beach.
A police dog handler spent time calmly approaching the dog, which would approach barking before running off, trailing its lead.
A woman, the only other person in the bay, stood further down the beach.
Four police cars were parked at the slipway by the crossing where an ice cream van is often parked. The GSPCA van also pulled in here.
Mr George walked the dog up the slipway before placing it in the back of his van as people watched on from the sea walls.
