Two want to be Jurat

Sunday 29 September 2019

Two people have been nominated, for just one vacant seat as a Jurat of Guernsey's Royal Court.

Jurat Barbara Bartie is retiring so the Bailiff's Chambers invited nominations to replace her.

Paul Martin Burnard has been proposed by Deputy Lyndon Trott and seconded by Deputy Peter Ferbrache while Jonathan Richard Beck was proposed by Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez and seconded by Deputy Michelle Le Clerc.

The nomination period closed at 16:00 on Friday, 27 September, meaning they are the only two nominees and there will now be an election to choose between them.

The States of Election will therefore meet on Wednesday, 16 October, 2019 to choose the new Jurat.

The States of Election currently comprises the Bailiff and the two Law Officers, 15 Jurats, eight Rectors, the 38 People’s Deputies and 34 Douzaine Representatives.  All have a vote except for the Bailiff who may only vote in the event of a tie.
